A salvaged plastic egg carton is an inexpensive source of construction material for making clever craft novelties. The plastic is soft enough to be easily cut with scissors; it can be readily fastened together with clear glue-glaze or tacky craft glue; and colors can be changed to your heart's content with tempera, all-purpose spray paint or acrylics. It must certainly become a most popular material for these reasons alone.

Yet the magical transformation from egg cartons to some of the novelties presented in this book depends on still another physical characteristic - the unique reaction of the material when a heated tool, such as an awl or an electric cutter, is placed against it. The material can be carved, fused together, or cut off with heated tools.
